Small company,
long practice.
Houjun Co., Ltd. (株式会社豊順) is a small AI research and development company in Japan. We take on client work in local and private AI, publish open-source tools, ship our own apps, and run Cherry Lab, a specialty coffee roastery and café in Tokyo.
Since 1998
The company is built on the long practice of our lead engineer, who has worked on intelligent systems for almost thirty years. That work lives on here as source code, system architecture, development process and products.

Medical signal recognition
Research with a university and its hospital on lung sounds and lung disease: signal processing, feature analysis and pattern recognition to classify abnormal breath sounds automatically, as an aid to diagnosis.

Intelligent recognition for high-security facilities
Took part in developing intelligent recognition and real-time analysis systems for high-security facilities, including correctional institutions: recognising abnormal situations, analysing sudden events as they unfold, and linking with electronic equipment to support the management of high-security areas.

City-scale public-safety video systems
Took part in developing large video systems spanning several cities: connecting a very large number of cameras, alert set-ups for priority areas, real-time recognition, support for judging events as they develop, access control, and integration with other systems.

Robot vision and core control
Core control software for intelligent robots: real-time camera recognition, autonomous walking, obstacle avoidance, dynamic balance, object recognition and grasping, command parsing and execution.

Generative AI, running locally
Large language models and open-weight models, multimodal AI, fine-tuning, distillation and quantisation, local inference, and AI built into mobile and desktop products.
Years of building large recognition and video systems taught us why privacy matters. Today we build AI that runs on your own hardware, so your data stays with you.
How we work
- Written first. We work mainly in writing — English, Chinese or Japanese — so every decision is on record.
- Only what we can show. Our tools are open source, our research reports what did not work, and our apps are on the App Store.
- Small on purpose. Fixed scope, fixed price, and the people you write to are the people who do the work.
